Story 215
Robert Vaughn, David McCallum - In 1966, my dad, a writer, managed to get interviews with the two main stars of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", and took me along. We drove to the MGM studio in Culver City, and were escorted to the sound stage where "U.N.C.L.E." was filming. We sat and watched them work on a scene for a while, then there was a break and David McCallum sat down with us. At one point in the interview, he reached over, gave me a friendly slap on the leg, and said "I bet you didn't know that about me, did you?" Next, we went and sat with Robert Vaughn in his small dressing room. He asked if we would mind if he changed clothes, since he had only a few minutes before the next scene. He then stripped to his boxers and shirt and put on different slacks while he answered questions. Both men were very friendly and my youthful image of them as cool heroes was not spoiled one bit.
