Story 89
Dean Martin - in the mid-1960s, a girlfriend and I went to a famous Hollywood restaurant for a drink after work. As we were leaving, Dean Martin and his agent were entering the restaurant. Although we really could not afford to have dinner at this restaurant, we were mesmerized by Martin. Using the telephone in the ladies restroom, I placed a call to the restaurant asking if they accepted credit cards. When I found out that they did, I made an immediate dinner reservation. We were seated two tables away from Dean and were absolutely thrilled! I even worked up the nerve to stop at his table as we were leaving to tell him how much I admired him. His smile and graciousness lit up my heart. Many years later, as his son was buried in the Westwood Veterans Cemetery, an Air Force flyover screamed by just outside my 24th floor office windows. I said a prayer for both of them.
