Dan Rather - In 1983, I encountered Dan Rather as he was leaving the Steak N' Shake restaurant in Alton, IL. He was in town to attend the funeral of his producer Lane Vernados' mother. Even though this was 12:30 in the afternoon, he was still back in New York to anchor the CBS Evening News that night. No, I don't know what he ordered, and no, I don't know the frequency!
