Story 136
Kay Starr - Back in the mid-'50s, as a very young man, I worked for United Airlines Reservations in New York. While I often talked with famous people, my favorite was Kay Starr. Once our contact was made, whenever she would be in New York she would call me for her personal airline reservations, which were most often to Las Vegas, though many times also for family members, who would usually be traveling from Bristol, Tennessee to Vegas. Many times she would call me at home in the wee hours and we would chat for a long time. Schedules never permitted us to meet in person, but she once sent me an autographed photo along with a personal comment that I treasure to this day, though the ink has long faded to illegibility. She is a funny and sweet lady. She called me "Mr. James".
